Five on Friday - Alafair Burke

Yay, it's Friday! Here in Northeast Ohio we've had a break in the weather. I don't tend to complain about the heat, but I do LOVE being able to turn off the AC and have the windows open. Since I don't have to look forward to Fridays for the ability to stay home anymore, I look forward to Fridays for the Five on Friday feature.

Today I get to feature one of my absolute favorite writers and people. When I started this blogging gig, Alafair Burke was literally the first person to agree to an interview with me. And I was pretty bad back then. Luckily I've made improvements along the way! One of the things on my bucket list is to be able to give an intro speech for Alafair when she earns a lifetime achievement award.

This week Alafair released NEVER TELL, her fourth Ellie Hatcher novel and her eighth novel overall. Having started reading Alafair's work at the very beginning with her Samantha Kincaid series, I've watched the development of Alafair as a writer. I've witnessed her growing sense of confidence in herself, and I think, "holy crap! When she's ready to receive that lifetime achievement award, she's going to have one heck of a career behind her."

Someone recently asked me if I liked Alafair's books because I like Alafair the person. I actually wouldn't know Alafair the person had I not started out as such a big fan of her books. Getting to know her as a person has been an added perk. Now today, I'd like to help YOU know her a little better as well. It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to one of my heroes...Alafair Burke!

1. My biggest pet peeve is:  New Yorkers who talk on their cell phones in my elevator. (Yep, that's right. I said MY elevator.)

2. My favorite toppings on a pizza are: fresh mozzarella, basil, and extra tomato sauce.

3. My favorite t-shirt (that I own) is: the "Killer Summer T-Shirt," courtesy of Houston's Murder by the Book.

4. The last book I recommended to someone was: Megan Abbott's DARE ME, because I tend to have friends who would appreciate a book about the dark side of cheerleading.

5. The #1 item on my bucket list right now is: Spend a whole month in Portland, Oregon, playing golf and finishing my book.

Based on this picture that Alafair posted just the other day on Facebook, she may have a new favorite t-shirt. You just can't take her anywhere!

Ironically one of my favorite t-shirts comes from Murder by the Book, too. Mine is this bright, bright orange. You can't miss me in this puppy!

I promised earlier this week I would provide the details about Alafair's webchat that she's holding next month. So here those are:

July 16th
9 PM Eastern

You'll probably want to access it a little early if you're able. I'm not sure what kind of sign in you might need to do because it is live and y'all will be able to ask Alafair questions and whatnot.

So, that's it for me this week. I'm going to go see what awesome person we have lined up for next week and make sure I have all the necessary pieces/parts! Thanks for stopping. Have a great weekend and HAPPY READING!

Alafair is so open and adorable in her various posts that it's not hard to feel like you know her. Thanks for making us feel even closer. BTW, my favorite Tshirt is my Eat Sleep Read that has been signed (so far) by RC (natch) and Harlan Coben. Can't wait to add Alafair, but she has to come to California. - Jann

Hi Jann!

Cool shirt idea. :-) You're causing ideas to start churning in my head...
